CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A grocery store that served part of the West Ashley community for nearly 40 years announced it was closing down on Sept. 18, 2013.
Grocer Piggly Wiggly said it was closing its Northbridge location on Sumar Street where Sam Rittenberg Boulevard and Old Town Road meet.
The building sat vacant for years until the city of Charleston bought the property in 2017. Crews demolished the former store in 2018, but the triangular-shaped lot remained undeveloped despite various proposals for its future.
