CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The City of Charleston is set to preview an area-specific flood action plan during the Basin Flood Action Committee meeting this week.
Two historic neighborhoods, the Rosemont and Bridgeview communities, lie on the marsh on Charleston’s peninsula. It leaves them especially vulnerable to flooding from storm surge, high tides, and heavy rain. The city and several organizations are working to fix that with short and long term solutions.
“We the city are focusing on a flood action plan for the community. We’re looking to finalize that by the end of this year. We’re going to be doing a little preview, we’ve done a preview for the community, and now a public preview on some of the work that’s been done to help identify some nature-based solutions, some short-term stormwater improvements for the community and longer-scale adaptation with sea level rise kind of ideas for the community as well,” Kaylan Koszela, director of resilience for the city, said…
