Berkeley County deputies warn public to stay wary of jury duty scam

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Scammers are impersonating the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and collecting fake fines for alleging residents have missed jury duty, the real sheriff’s office warned Tuesday.

BCSO said scam callers have been identifying themselves as sheriff’s office personnel, using the names of members of the agency’s command staff to appear credible along with spoofing of the official BCSO phone number.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office will never call to demand payment over the phone, request money, gift cards, or wire transfers to resolve a warrant, or allow anyone to pay off an arrest warrant.
