Local officials prepare for possible tropical weather

LADSON, S.C. (WCBD) – Local officials are also keeping a close eye on the tropical waves. Charleston County Emergency Management and the City of Charleston held a conference call to ensure they are prepared for whatever may come our way.

The City of Charleston has an action plan in place when extreme rain or flood events are expected. Working to proactively mitigate flooding in low-lying areas by lowering lake levels, placing pumps in vulnerable spots, opening parking garages, increasing staffing, and more.

“That can be from the stormwater department, will immediately go out and start clearing drainage ditches, clearing our stormwater drains, making sure that all debris is cleared. And that way, if there is, you know, heavy rains or floods, that water can flow. Then our parks department, they go and they take care of all of our city facilities and buildings, boarding up windows,” said Deja Knight McMillan with the City of Charleston…
