This Day in History: Sept. 24, 2014: Charleston’s first Black police chief dies

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The city of Charleston mourned the death of its first Black police chief, who led the agency for nearly a quarter-century on Sept. 24, 2014.

Reuben Greenberg, 71, died nine years after he retired at the advice of his doctors.
