Charleston Faces Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, and Coastal Flooding Through Tuesday

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Drivers and coastal residents in the Lowcountry are bracing for another round of heavy rain, gusty winds, and coastal flooding that could persist into Tuesday morning, making travel difficult and beaches dangerous.

Tough Commutes and Flooding Risks

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, widespread showers and winds up to 25 mph are expected near the coast, reducing visibility and creating standing water on major roads.

Highway 17 is projected to see some of the worst impacts, with ponding already slowing Monday traffic. Commuters on I-26 and other low-lying corridors should allow extra time and avoid flooded areas when possible.

High Surf and Rip Current Advisories

A High Surf Advisory remains in effect through early October, accompanied by a Rip Current Statement. Officials warn that swimming and boating near Folly Beach and the Isle of Palms could be dangerous through tonight, with strong currents and rough surf expected.

Extended Forecast

While storms are likely to continue into Tuesday, forecasters say conditions should improve by Wednesday as drier air moves in, leading to a sunnier start to October.

The five-day forecast includes:

  • Monday: Showers and storms, windy, high 77°
  • Tuesday: Scattered storms, breezy, high 77°, low 67°
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 79°, low 63°
  • Thursday: Partly cloudy, high 75°, low 63°
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, high 76°

Community Safety

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items ahead of stronger winds and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain. Beachgoers should stay out of the water until advisories are lifted…
