BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – Two men are facing charges after deputies discovered methamphetamine and a handgun during a traffic stop in the Jedburg area.
Steven Bruce Benton and Tyberius Ra Deas face charges of trafficking methamphetamine and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, deputies say. Deas also faces a charge of evading arrest and deputies say he also has an outstanding warrant through the Summerville Police Department.
A deputy conducted a traffic stop for defective equipment and an improperly displayed license plate near Interstate 26 and Jedburg Road, the sheriff’s office said in a release.
Deputies say the passenger, identified as Deas, got out of the vehicle and went inside a nearby store. When deputies reached the driver, identified as Benton, they saw an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle, the release states.
