COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) — South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff on Friday in memory of a Moncks Corner deputy fire chief who died last weekend in the line of duty.
Deputy Chief James “Jimmy” Townsend, 61, died early Sunday morning after suffering a cardiac event, just hours after responding to two calls. He had been with the Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department for nearly 35 years.
Flags atop the State House, state buildings, and military installations will be lowered to half-staff from sunset to sunset on October 3 in honor of Townsend’s “selfless service and supreme sacrifice in the line of duty,” per the governor’s order…
