MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) — A portion of the Shem Creek boardwalk is temporarily closed as Mount Pleasant crews work to assess and repair damage caused by this week’s high tides.
People are being asked to avoid the ramp connecting the boardwalk to the pedestrian bridge crossing Shem Creek until repairs are complete due to safety concerns.
“The Town of Mount Pleasant Public Services Department will conduct a thorough assessment of the damage and take the necessary steps to complete repairs as soon as possible,” an Oct. 10 notice stated.

The Charleston Harbor reached major flood stage on Friday morning, with high tide peaking at 8.46 feet, according to preliminary data from the National Weather Service. That would rank as the 13th-highest tide level on record and tie for the 7th-highest non-tropical tide on record.
