The Wicked South Carolina Lowcountry: Hampton County’s Old Jail

Do don’t have to travel far to find a little wicked history in the S.C. Lowcountry.

This column, and others to come, was inspired by North District Middle School history teacher Shane A. Broome, who assigned my son and his classmates an extra credit assignment that requires them to visit 25 local historical markers, take a selfie photo at each one, and then give a presentation at the end of the school year. Inspired by Mr. Broome, I have decided to undertake my own historical journey around our area and its historical markers or sites as just one feature of the Wicked SC Lowcountry column.
