Charleston Animal Society brings in out-of-state surgical team to tackle crisis

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The Charleston Animal Society says it takes in more than 90% of all the animals in Charleston and Berkeley Counties.

With 1,300 animals currently in its care across both of its campuses, the Charleston Animal Society says it’s now taking emergency action to address the growing impact of the national veterinarian shortage.

Between Sunday and Wednesday, the Animal Society will host an emergency veterinary surgical team from out of state to help with a large-scale spay and neuter initiative. The goal is to provide 550 surgeries for animals to move forward to adoption, complying with South Carolina state law…
