North Charleston man arrested for stolen firearm and fentanyl possession

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A man was arrested Tuesday after police discovered a stolen firearm and Fentanyl during a search, according to the North Charleston Police Department.

Simmerick Salley, a 37-year-old, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony possession of a firearm, possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl and receiving stolen goods less than $2000.

The report on the incident states that at approximately 6:30 p.m. an officer made contact with Salley behind a motel on Ashley Phosphate Road due to what they identified as possible drug activity. The reporting officer noted that upon approaching Salley, they detected the smell of marijuana.

A records check of Salley uncovered an active arrest warrant in place with another agency. Additionally, in a subsequent check of Salley, officers reportedly located a loaded handgun in a backpack, and a multi-colored coin bag containing a substance that field tested presumptive for Fentanyl.
