CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Mike A. Brown, one of three former North Charleston councilmen indicted in a federal corruption probe earlier this year, changed his plea in court on Monday.
Brown was charged in February alongside eight others following a year-long investigation that uncovered several bribery, kickback, extortion, and money laundering schemes. He initially pleaded not guilty in March to three counts of conspiracy, bribery, and wire fraud.
However, a plea agreement dated October 17 indicates that Brown has now agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bribery with respect to programs receiving federal funds and honest services wire fraud.
