Halloween safety tips for keeping pets secure and stress-free during trick-or-treating

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Trick-or-treating is fun for children, and plenty of folks around the Lowcountry are celebrating the spooky holiday. But for the houses with pets, how should pet owners keep their furry friends safe?

Local emergency veterinarians say they receive more calls during the week of Halloween due to chocolate ingestion.

“We have a lot of candy, kids leaving candy around, just big bowls of candy out that’s not typically there,” said Aubree Barrick, an Emergency Veterinarian at VEG ER. “So that’s a very common thing to see around Halloween as well as Christmas.”…
