Lowcountry couple stranded in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa cancels flight

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – A Lowcountry couple’s honeymoon in Jamaica took a dramatic turn when Hurricane Melissa forced widespread flight cancellations, leaving them stranded on the island for days.

Adam and Jordan Simmons of Summerville arrived in Montego Bay last week to celebrate their marriage. They were supposed to return home this week, but their flight was canceled as Hurricane Melissa moved in over the weekend. The Category 4 storm brought dangerous winds, heavy rain, and widespread damage across Jamaica, prompting the government to close airports and order people to shelter in place.
