NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The Coastal Community Foundation has launched an emergency fundraising effort to help those affected by the government shutdown.
The foundation activated the Care Fund this week for the first time since the 2019 government shutdown. It provides rapid-response funding to organizations across the state affected by the shutdown.
Foundation President and CEO Darris Goss Senior said they are hearing from other non-profits like the Lowcountry Food Bank that they are experiencing the highest food insecurity rates in over a decade. Federal workers without an income and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients currently have limited resources to put food on the table.
Foundation aims to raise $500,000
The foundation launched the care fund to support organizations in filling the gap. The food bank needs to add at least $125,000 in food assistance each week and the foundation is aiming to raise $500,000 to ensure the food bank has enough resources to help families through November…
