Charleston County sees decrease in vaping incidents thanks to vape detectors

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCSC) – The Charleston County School District has found technology to successfully mitigate the ongoing youth vaping problem that challenges Lowcountry schools.

Wando High School installed vape-detection devices in bathrooms at the beginning of the school year. They are equipped with radar sensors that can detect even a single puff and track how long students spend in the facilities.

The device looks like a regular smoke detector mounted on the ceiling. If it senses vaping or detects students spending more than eight minutes in the bathroom, it automatically alerts designated administrators by text or email…
