CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The owner of a historic building is asking the City of Charleston to review it for a full demolition.
Philip Simmons, an iron worker known as “The Keeper of the Gates” for his masterful work on gates and window grills across the peninsula, owned the home. Philip lived and did his iron work in the cottage behind it at 30 1/2 Blake Street.
The house was built in the 1890s and has been in the Simmons family since 1959…
