Man sentenced in 2020 murder of missing Charleston woman Celia Sweeney

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A man has been sentenced for the death of Celia Sweeney, a Charleston woman who went missing in 2020 and was later found dead inside a ‘Husky’ container in Spartanburg County.

Mark Dwyane Walton, 36, was guilty of accessory after the fact to murder and desecration of human remains by a Charleston County jury following a weeklong trial, the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office stated.

Judge Charles McCutchen sentenced Walton to serve 25 years of consecutive incarceration, 15 years for accessory, and 10 years for desecration.

On Feb. 27, 2020, Buddy Carr, 32, traveled to Charleston from Spartanburg in a white Ford F-150 pickup to visit Walton and attend a funeral. Both Carr and Walton were longtime friends who claimed to have associations with the motorcycle club Hell’s Angels…
