Wando Marching Band finishes 11th at Bands of America Grand National Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. (WCIV) — The Wando Marching Band finished 11th at the Bands of America Grand National Championship over the weekend, marking a sizeable achievement for 182 Charleston County students.

Hosted at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the Grand National Championship consisted of 108 bands and over 20,000 students from across the nation, including one of the competition’s smallest bands from Kenai, Alaska.

Wando’s band is considered mid-sized with 182 student musicians and color guard ranging from 7th-12th grade. The group earned a second performance after a strong first round in Thursday’s preliminary performance, earning their spot in the semi-finals with 35 other bands. 36 bands were narrowed to 12 who would advance to the finals Saturday afternoon, and Wando was amongst them…
