Charleston Southern University leads nation in ‘Operation Christmas Child’ donations

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Charleston Southern University is celebrating a major milestone in giving back. For the seventh consecutive year, the school packed more Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes than any other college or university in the country.

While CSU is celebrating the feat, the effort by the university community means more than how much work was done by volunteers — it means more comfort items being sent to children around the world in a time of need.

Operation Christmas Child, a project of the Christian charity Samaritan’s Purse, partners with churches, schools and other local organizations to fill shoeboxes with gifts for children around the world.

The red and green boxes often include donated toys, school supplies, hygiene products, clothing, and comfort items such as small blankets, reusable water bottles, or flashlights. Many boxes also contain personal notes…
