Charleston City Council votes to annexing 3 acres connected to townhome project

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Charleston City Council has taken the first step toward annexing three acres of land on James Island, a move tied to a long-delayed housing development.

Council members on Tuesday approved the first reading of an ordinance to annex property at 0 Folly Road, adjacent to a project that calls for 67 townhomes. The development has been in the works for at least a decade.

If the annexation clears three required readings, the land would be used to construct a stormwater retention pond necessary to comply with the city’s zoning and land-use regulations. Bringing the property into the city limits would also place the entire development under the same jurisdiction…
