CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Crews responded to a kitchen fire at a West Ashley apartment complex Wednesday night, according to the Charleston Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched to the complex at 6:33 p.m. after a caller reported smelling smoke and active fire alarms at an apartment building on Mary Ader Avenue.
Officials arrived within four minutes and did not see any smoke from the exterior. When they searched the building, they found a fire in one of the unit kitchens, which was quickly contained with an extinguisher.
Investigators determined the cause was cooking left unattended. The spread to the cabinets and was progressing toward neighboring units before firefighters extinguished the flames…
