Bitter cold temperatures expected to arrive across the Lowcountry overnight Sunday

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — A strong arctic cold front is expected to move into the Lowcountry this weekend, bringing gusty winds and bitterly cold temperatures.

Temperatures are expected to steadily fall into the low 20s overnight Sunday, with wind chill dropping into the teens by early Monday morning amid breezy conditions, according to Storm Team 2.

“We have this trough of low pressure diving in across the eastern U.S., so this will help a lot of cold air from Canada spill down,” Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Jed Christoph explained.

Forecasters say temperatures will warm slightly throughout the day but are only expected to reach the low 40s, which is roughly 20 degrees below average for the time of year…
