City of Charleston breaks ground on phase one of the Lowcountry Lowline

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Charleston city leaders invited partners and attendees to kick off construction for the first phase of a long-awaited transportation project on the peninsula.

For over a decade, Charleston residents have been waiting for the Lowcountry Lowline, which is a proposed two-mile linear park and mobility pathway. During the ceremony, many thanked the mayor, William Cogswell, for making it a reality.

“Mayor Cogswell – just he saw our vision and saw what this could be as an amenity to the community, and not just as a park space,” Courtney Olson, executive director of Friends of the Lowline, said. “But as a gathering space, a safe way of transit for people to walk and bike, for kids to get to school, and then using nature-based solutions for flood mitigation.”…
