Charleston City Council officially annexes land on James Island

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The Charleston City Council voted to annex three acres of land on James Island at 0 Folly Road, a move tied to a long-planned townhome development that has been under consideration for more than a decade.

The annexed land sits adjacent to a project that includes dozens of townhomes. City officials say the property will be used to build a required stormwater retention pond, allowing the entire development to comply with Charleston’s zoning and land-use regulations.

Annexation also brings the full project under the city’s jurisdiction, rather than splitting oversight between the city and Charleston County…
