SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — More than two years after a deadly shooting at a Berkeley County intersection, the family of 23-year-old Hunter Baum says they are still searching for answers and are determined not to let his case fade from view.
Baum was shot and killed in August 2023 while stopped at a traffic light along Nexton Parkway near Interstate 26. Investigators say he was unarmed and driving home when he was shot. He was taken to the hospital, where he fought for several days before dying from his injuries. The case remains unsolved.
Hunter’s mother, Meredith Baum, describes her son as athletic, driven and deeply kind. She says he was the type of person who went out of his way to help others, whether that meant holding doors open, checking on family members, or helping people he did not know…
