MUSC’s Citadel Mall buy to ease parking and boost healthcare in West Ashley, officials say

CHARLESTON , S.C. (WCIV) — The Medical University of South Carolina finalized on Thursday its purchase of five parcels of the Citadel Mall property and surrounding land, project officials said.

MUSC will expand research facilities, enhance educational programs and upgrade clinical care while addressing downtown Charleston campus parking challenges, according to officials.

“By expanding our footprint and embracing innovative models, like the medical mall concept of repurposing retail spaces into comprehensive health care hubs,” said Dr. Patrick Cawley, the chief executive of MUSC Health, “we are laying the foundation for groundbreaking research, world-class education and exceptional patient care, while ensuring we have the capacity necessary to serve our community for generations to come.”…
