Phase one of Charleston’s Lowcountry Lowline is being built by Edifice Construction.

Charleston’s Lowcountry Lowline project has advanced to Phase One construction, led by Charlotte-based Edifice Construction following a groundbreaking on December 15, 2025. This phase transforms a 1.6-mile former railroad corridor from Mount Pleasant Street to Line Street under Interstate 26 into pedestrian and bike paths with green features.​

Project Scope

Phase One costs $6 million as part of a $15 million city commitment via tax-increment financing. Features include a 10-foot pedestrian walkway, 12-foot bike trail, landscaped medians, pocket parks, and nature-based stormwater systems like rain gardens for flood mitigation.​
