For the last stage of the drainage works, Central Park Road will be closed until late February.

Central Park Road on James Island, South Carolina, closes to vehicular traffic starting Tuesday, January 6, 2026, for the final phase of a major drainage improvement project. This work addresses chronic flooding from spring and king tides near James Island Creek.​

Project Details

Crews will install tidal gates on three 48-inch drainage pipes to block high tides, build sidewalks between Riverland Drive and Fleming Road, and apply the final asphalt surface. The road has already been raised up to two feet, with pipes installed earlier in the project.​
