North Charleston police arrested 19-year-old Kenneth Lee Gillard Jr. early Wednesday for allegedly breaking into a neighbor’s apartment and assaulting her while she slept, with two children present. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. in the 2200 block of Greenridge Road.

The victim awoke to find Gillard inside after he used a spare key hidden under her doormat, initially mistaking him for her boyfriend before realizing the intrusion. Gillard claimed he entered for a tissue, believing the door unlocked, but fled when confronted; the moved key confirmed unauthorized entry.
