Officers responded around 5:30 a.m. to a report of a deceased man, later identified by the Charleston County Coroner’s Office as Atkinson, who died from multiple blunt force injuries. Detectives determined the injuries stemmed from a physical assault by his girlfriend, Chelsea Ann McDaniel, 37, of Charleston, during an argument days earlier; the internal trauma proved fatal.
