Charleston to Pacific: Air Force puts Global Readiness to the test with Palmetto Reach

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — From the runway to the front lines, the U.S. Air Force is putting its readiness to the ultimate test right here in the Lowcountry.

Eight massive C-17 Globemaster III aircraft lifted off from Joint Base Charleston as part of Palmetto Reach, a high-intensity Combat Readiness Exercise designed to prepare aircrews for real-world deployments across the globe. Each aircraft is flying a 40-plus-hour nonstop mission, mirroring the extreme conditions crews would face in an actual overseas crisis.
