Tri-county Human Trafficking Task Force expands efforts as Lowcountry leads in victims

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) — Human trafficking continues to be a growing concern in the Lowcountry, with new data showing Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties reporting the highest number of tips, victims, and cases in South Carolina.

According to the state’s latest annual report, the Lowcountry leads the state in human trafficking activity, numbers advocates say represent only a fraction of the true scope of the problem. On Friday, the Tri-County Human Trafficking Task Force held their first quarterly meeting of 2026 in Summerville, bringing together law enforcement, advocates, legal experts and local nonprofits.
