CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Several local agencies are preparing for the extremely cold temperatures this weekend, which are expected to get even colder next week.
With the majority of the Lowcountry in the clear weather-wise, many are turning their attention to the upcoming “bitterly cold” temperatures. Isle of Palms has salt on hand for its sidewalks, and the state’s Department of Transportation has pre-treated roadways. Additionally, the city closed its public restrooms and its recreation department’s outdoor water to prevent pipes from freezing or bursting.
“When we’ve got cold weather coming in and concerns about freezing, we start to shut down areas so we can minimize damage that might happen because of frozen water,” Kevin Cornett, chief of Isle of Palms police, said. “So, we might have some of our ditches that have water or different things that we have put in place for drainage purposes. We’ll close those off so we can minimize any damages to those.”…
