FIRST ALERT: Forecasters monitoring new chance of snowy weekend weather in Lowcountry

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Live 5 News’ First Alert Weather Team and the Charleston National Weather Service branch are both monitoring the possibility of wintry precipitation across the southeast.

An uncertain forecast

While it is still several days away, forecasters have growing confidence in the likelihood of very cold temperatures over the weekend, with the possibility of temperatures falling 20 to 25 degrees below normal at some times.

This mixed with the likelihood of stronger winds could lead to periods of dangerous wind chills, forecasters say, with some areas facing the possibility of near-record low temperatures and the lowest high temperatures on record for those days.

These elements could combine with the expected development of an area of low pressure off the southeast coast, which may produce precipitation that extends from the coast toward southeastern South Carolina and Georgia.
