NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — North Charleston police arrested a 26-year-old man Monday after he fled a traffic stop and led officers on a brief pursuit through nearby business parking lots, authorities said.
An officer stopped a vehicle shortly after 1 p.m. near Dorchester Road and Constitution Avenue for illegal window tint and a defective brake light, police said. The driver, identified as Gerald Jerome Moultrie III of North Charleston, told the officer he was returning the vehicle to his aunt and said he was licensed to carry a firearm, which he said was concealed in the front of his waistband.
Police said officers asked Moultrie to step out of the vehicle for a probable cause search after questioning him about marijuana in the car. Instead, Moultrie put the vehicle in drive and fled through neighboring business parking lots, police said.
The pursuit ended behind a business on Dorchester Road, where Moultrie exited the vehicle and ran. Officers established a perimeter and later found him hiding in a ditch line on Bonds Avenue, where he was taken into custody…
