Charleston Police charge man in auto-pedestrian hit-and-run killing of woman, 78

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Police say they have the man in custody responsible for killing an elderly pedestrian more than a month ago.

Trevis Dwayne Deas, 49, of Charleston, is facing a charge for a hit-and-run accident with death.

This charge stems from a Dec. 15 auto-pedestrian crash in which, around 8:30 a.m., Christine Harris, 78, of Charleston, was hit by a car on King Street near Mount Pleasant Street. The car, which Deas was reportedly driving, was exiting the parking lot of a business on the 1200 block of King Street when it hit and killed Harris, who was crossing the business’s driveway from the sidewalk.
