Court documents show verbal confrontation led to NoMo Halloween weekend shooting

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Moments before bullets flew during a Halloween weekend shooting at a downtown Charleston apartment, a verbal and physical altercation unfolded, court records show.

In the wake of the shooting, Zaire Christopher Nelson has been charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and pointing and presenting a firearm. However, in the lead-up to the altercation, Nelson allegedly ran down the victim – later identified as 21-year-old Aden Gore – in a bid to defend an associate, who also left the scene with a gunshot wound in his leg, according to an affidavit.

Questioning by law enforcement determined that Nelson “did not” act in defense of his associate and “was the primary aggressor” during the confrontation, according to Charleston police…
