Former Navy Admiral Nancy Lacore aims to lead SC 1st Congressional District

CHARLESTON , S.C. (WCIV) — The race to represent South Carolina’s First Congressional District is growing increasingly competitive, with eighteen candidates now vying to fill the seat currently held by Rep. Nancy Mace.

The district stretches along much of the state’s coastline, from Charleston to Hilton Head, and includes a diverse mix of military families, retirees, working parents, and coastal communities facing rising costs and environmental pressures. Among the newest candidates to enter the race is Democrat Nancy Lacore, a recently retired Navy admiral whose decision to run for Congress was shaped by an abrupt end to her military career and a lifelong commitment to service.

“I served in the Navy for 35 great, great years, and I’m really proud of my service,” Lacore said Tuesday.
