JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) — Just off Folly Road, in the historic Beefield settlement community, a four-acre stretch of land is about to take center stage, not as development, but as a space shaped and owned by the people who call it home.
Long tied to Civil War history and the legacy of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, this parcel has remained largely undeveloped for generations. Once slated for an eight-home subdivision, it was protected from development in 2023 thanks to the efforts of the Lowcountry Land Trust and local community leaders.
Through community-led planning and workshops, residents developed a master plan that reflects their history while providing space for families and children.
