Family pleads for return of missing headstone honoring Chris “Swirl” Young

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — Nearly eight years after losing a loved one they describe as the “life of the party,” a Lowcountry family says they are facing renewed heartbreak after discovering his memorial headstone is gone.

Chris Young affectionately known as “Swirl” died in 2017. Since then, his family says a memorial site along Halfway Creek Road has been a sacred place to visit, reflect and celebrate his life. Two weeks ago, they learned the headstone placed there in his honor had been removed without permission.
