Newly obtained records name officers allegedly tied to Mount Pleasant exam-cheating probe

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — Documents newly obtained on Monday from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy shed additional light on the removal of 10 Mount Pleasant police officers amid an investigation into a cheating scandal.

The officers were fired or separated from the police department under classifications involving misconduct, with the alleged actions in each case listed as occurring between Nov. 4, 2025, and Dec. 5, 2025. An internal investigation resulted in the termination of two officers for cheating on the Datamaster DMT operator recertification training and test. However, a subsequent investigation revealed that eight additional officers allegedly provided and received test answers.

“The Mount Pleasant Police Department is taking clear steps to strengthen accountability and prevent this type of misconduct in the future,” Mount Pleasant Police Chief Mark Arnold said in a statement. “While I am disappointed by the actions of a small number of individuals, it is important to emphasize that their conduct does not reflect the professionalism and integrity of the men and women who serve honorably in the Mount Pleasant Police Department each day.”…
