‘It’s Already a Nightmare’: Neighbors push back on 110-home proposal near Highway 17

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — A proposed housing development in north Mount Pleasant brought out a full room — and strong reactions — as neighbors gathered to learn more about plans for 110 rental homes near Highway 17.

Landmark Properties is proposing what it describes as “paired homes” — duplex-style units designed to function like single-family houses. Development Manager Rex Warner says the project is aimed at what he calls the “missing middle” — dual-income households, young couples and families who want more space than an apartment but are priced out of Mount Pleasant’s traditional housing market.

“110 paired homes that are designed to live like single family units to really target the growing missing middle,” Warner said after the meeting. “The dual income households, the young couples, the young families that can’t afford the $1.2 million house in Mount Pleasant.”…
