Coroner IDs man accused of shooting at Charleston County deputies during Johns Island chase

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified the man accused of shooting at a deputy during a Wednesday morning chase.

Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said Floriberto Perez Nieto, 34, of Johns Island, died on Feb. 11 from a gunshot wound sustained when deputies returned fire near the intersection of Edenborough Road and Caroline Lane.

Authorities said the incident began Tuesday evening with a report of shots being fired off of Edenborough Road. That call led to a vehicle pursuit and later a foot chase involving Nieto and Charleston County deputies in the early hours of Feb. 11…
