Great Backyard Bird Count begins as SCDNR tracks wintering birds in the Lowcountry

LOWCOUNTRY, S.C. (WCIV) — The South Carolina Department of natural Resources will be conducting their annual Baltimore Oriole Winter Survey starting Friday, and they are asking Lowcountry birdwatchers to chime in.

Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on their birdfeeders and submit data for the Great Backyard Bird Count, as scientists work to track the Baltimore oriole as they winter in the Palmetto State.

Survey participants are tasked with reporting Baltimore oriole sightings, counting and reporting the number of the birds seen throughout the survey period, which spans from Feb. 13 through 16…
