Southern Shrimp Alliance advocates for S.C. labeling laws

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WSAV) – The federal advocacy group, the Southern Shrimp Alliance, with support from the South Carolina Shrimpers Association, is hoping South Carolina legislators will follow in Georgias footsteps of introducing a bill meant to protect the shrimp industry.

For the last year and a half, the Southern Shrimp Alliance, a nonprofit representative of the commercial shrimping interest from North Carolina to Texas, has contracted seed consultants to conduct testing on shrimp served in restaurants in Charleston and Myrtle Beach. Forty-four restaurants from both areas were randomly selected.

Director Blake Price said it’s “solely to increase awareness, both public and consumer, and hopefully push for state labeling laws so people have a right to know what they’re eating.”…
