Goose Creek man charged with assaulting deputy following traffic stop

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted a deputy following a traffic stop Sunday night.

William Everett Ford, 62, is charged with failure to yield to emergency vehicles, assault on law enforcement while resisting arrest and two counts of first-degree assault and battery.

A deputy was attempting to rescue a dog on College Park Road when the dog was nearly struck by Ford’s vehicle after the driver disregarded the deputy’s blue lights. The deputy then conducted a traffic stop on Ford’s vehicle, saw that the airbags had deployed and the vehicle had severe damage, and Ford told deputies he had been in a car accident.

When the deputy attempted to detain Ford, Ford became aggressive and was tased after the deputy issued verbal commands…
