MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (Palmetto Life) — Marion’s Gelato, a new dessert shop in Mount Pleasant, opened its doors offering gelato made with natural, seasonal and organic ingredients.
The shop provides what owner Marion Kempf Manderville describes as “indulgent and healthier options for a sweet frozen treat.” All gelato is made from scratch in small batches using natural ingredients without preservatives, artificial flavoring or aromas.
Marion explained the difference between gelato and ice cream during a recent visit from Palmetto Life. “Gelato is made with milk. More milk and ice cream is made more with cream. Therefore, gelato overall has less fat than ice cream and is healthier,” she said.
Production process focuses on texture
The production process involves pasteurizing first and then freezing to achieve better texture, Marion said. She makes all the gelato herself using only natural ingredients…
