Law enforcement offers tips to avoid scammers as they become increasingly more dangerous

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Law enforcement is warning the public about an uptick in some frightening phone scams across the state. Callers impersonating law enforcement officers, using a variety of different tactics to take your money.

The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services, the latest to warn the community, sent out a release today about a scam targeting the families of convicted offenders.

“Taxes, jury duty, jail, bails and warrants, those are the biggest ones,” said Lexi Douglas, public information officer with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office when asked about the most frequent methods these scammers use…
